A dispensary pickup order at Farmers Choice takes four steps: browse the live menu for the store you want, place the order for pickup, bring a valid government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older, and pay at the counter when you collect it. Most orders are ready inside an hour, and both stores hold them at the counter.

That is the whole system, but the details are where the questions come from: which menu, what counts as ID, how you pay, and whether there is a dispensary open late enough for a drive down from Poughkeepsie after work. Here is all of it, from the farm stand side of the counter.

How does a dispensary pickup order work?

1. Pick your store and open its live menu. Farmers Choice has two stores, and each has its own live menu. The Fishkill menu shows the farm stand at 18 Westage Drive, Fishkill, NY 12524, just off Route 9 near the I-84 interchange in Dutchess County. The New Paltz menu shows the barn at 1 Old Route 299, New Paltz, NY 12561, at NYS Thruway Exit 18 in Ulster County. Check the menu for the store you plan to visit.

2. Build the order and choose pickup. Add what you want, pick a pickup time, and place the order. Nothing is charged online. If you are not sure what to choose, browse the menu first and decide at the counter instead. Walk-ins are always welcome.

3. Drive over with your ID. Most orders are ready inside an hour. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older, every visit, whatever your age. No medical card is needed for an adult-use purchase.

4. Collect and pay at the counter. A Farm Hand checks your ID, brings out the order, and you pay in person when it is handed to you.

What do you need to bring to pick up a dispensary order?

One thing: a valid government-issued photo ID that shows you are 21 or older. The Office of Cannabis Management lists what counts: a driver's license or non-driver ID card from the DMV or the federal government, a passport from the United States or any other country, an Armed Forces ID card, or another federal, state or local government ID, including IDNYC, that shows your age and carries your photo.

It is illegal for anyone under 21 to buy or possess adult-use cannabis in New York, and the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) notes that a licensed dispensary can lose its license for selling to someone under 21. Expect your ID to be checked every visit. Plan for anyone under 21 to wait outside.

If the order is in the Farmers Choice app, have the order number from the app's home screen ready along with your ID.

How do you pay for a pickup order?

At the counter, when you collect it. Payment happens in person, and nothing is charged until a Farm Hand has checked your ID and handed you the bag. Payment options can change, so if you want to be certain before you drive, call the store. Is there a dispensary open late near Poughkeepsie?

Yes. Farmers Choice Fishkill, at 18 Westage Drive, is open until 11PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and until 10PM Sunday through Wednesday, and it opens at 8AM every day. From downtown Poughkeepsie the store is about 11 miles south on Route 9, roughly an 18-minute drive, on the same corridor most Poughkeepsie drivers already use for errands. Place the order before you set out; most orders are ready inside an hour.

Fishkill is the closest Farmers Choice to Poughkeepsie, and it keeps the later hours of our two stores. Both stores' hours, parking and the app

In Fishkill, mornings are the quietest stretch and Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest; in New Paltz, weekend afternoons are the busy time. An order placed ahead helps most exactly when the counter is busiest.

The free Farmers Choice app is optional, but it makes the routine faster. It holds the live menu for the store you picked, lets you follow an order from confirmed to ready for pickup, and keeps the rewards from both stores on one account. Turn notifications on and it pings you when the order moves to ready. What happens if you cannot get there the same day?

Fishkill holds orders through the end of the day. In New Paltz, an order placed near closing is held for you the following day. If your plans change, call the store, and you can always place a fresh order when you are ready.

Before you drive home

Everything from the counter goes home sealed. New York does not allow open containers of cannabis in a vehicle, open containers of cannabis are illegal in a vehicle, and smoking cannabis in a vehicle, moving or parked, is illegal, as is driving under the influence. Products stay in their original, child-resistant packaging until you are home.
